تاریخ‌نگاری برون‌گرایانة علم: بازخوانـی تـز هِسـن ـ گروسمـان

چکیده

مقاله‌ای که بوریس هسن در 1931 منتشر کرد، توجه مورخین علم را به عوامل اجتماعی و ایدئولوژیک در شکل‌دهی تاریخ علم جلب کرد. این مقاله نوع جدیدی از تاریخ‌نگاری علم را ایجاد نمود که تاریخ‌نگاری برون‌گرا نامیده می‌شود. مدتی بعد یک ریاضی‌دان مارکسیست دیگر به نام هنریک گروسمان بی‌خبر از مقالة هسن، دو مقاله با دیدگاهی مشابه و مکمل دیدگاه وی ارائه داد. مقالة هسن دربارة عوامل اجتماعی و اقتصادی مؤثر در پژوهش‌های علمی نیوتن در کتاب اصول بود، درحالی که گروسمان تز مشابهی را دربارة مکانیک‌گرایی دکارتی پیشنهاد می‌کرد. با اینکه تز هسن به عنوان افکار مارکسیستی عوامانه به کناری گذاشته شده است، می‌توان آن دو را با هم تکمیل کرد و روایتی دقیق‌تر از کیفیت تأثیر عوامل بیرونی بر تاریخ علم ارائه داد. در این مقاله سعی در تهیة چنین ترکیبی دارم.

External Historiography of Science: A Review on Hessen-Grossmann Thesis

چکیده English

Boris Hessen (1893-1936) presented his paper on the role of social and ideological parameters in history of science in which he asserted that Isaac Newton's most famous work was created to cater to the goals and desires of 17th century industry and economy. Hessen asserted that Newton's work was inspired by his economic status and context, that the Principia was little more than the solution of technical problems of the bourgeoisie. Just in a short while after him another Marxist mathematician who is called Grossmann published two papers on a similar and complement thesis about Cartesian mechanism. Though Hessen’s work is now easily dismissed as "vulgar Marxism", the composition of these two theses can present a better story of how the external parameters influences over history of science.
