معنای فوسیس در تفکر یونانی آغازین

چکیده

هدف این مقاله روشن کردن معنا/معانی واژۀ فوسیس (طبیعت) در تفکر یونانی آغازین، با بررسی و تحلیل کاربردهای آن یا شواهد موجود در نوشته‌های کهن یونانی ـ اعم از فلسفی و غیر آن ـ است. اهمیتِ یافتن معنای واژگان و تأثیراتی که در جلوگیری از ایجاد مغالطات و بدفهمی‌های اساسی می‌تواند داشته باشد، اندک نیست؛ به‌ویژه زمانی که با پاره‌هایی به جا مانده از نوشته‌های کهن مواجه باشیم، این کار با برشمردن تمام معانی آن کلمه، می‌تواند ما را به مقصود اصلی نویسنده نزدیک‌تر کند. در این‌جا نخست به اختصار تفاسیر مختلفی که معنای واحدی برای فوسیس برمی‌شمارند، بررسی شده‌اند. سپس با استناد به متون دست اول، گسترۀ معنایی فوسیس و تعدد معانی ممکن آن نشان داده شده و کوشش شده است که مهم‌ترین شواهد کاربرد فوسیس با در نظر گرفتن سیاق، به دقت ترجمه و تفسیر شود. در پایان، آن رویکردی که معنای واحد یا محدودی برای فوسیس برمی‌شمارد، رد شده است.

The Meaning of φύσις in Early Greek Thought

چکیده English

The purpose of this article is to clarify the meaning/s of φύσις (nature) in Early Greek Thought by examining and analyzing its usages or the extant evidence in ancient Greek literature – whether it is philosophical or not. The importance of finding the meaning of words and the influences which it could have on avoiding making fallacies and fundamental misunderstandings is not trivial. Especially, when we deal with fragments, it can bring us nearer to the author/writer’s real intention. First, I briefly discuss the different interpretations which attribute a single meaning to φύσις. Then, based on primary sources, I show the semantic scope of φύσις and its several possible meanings. Here, I try to exactly translate and interpret the most important evidence of the usage of φύσις, considering their contexts. Finally, I reject that approach which attributes a single or limited meaning to φύσις.
