آیا خدا در اخلاق نقشی دارد؟ نقدی بر ریچارد سوئینبرن

چکیده
سوئینبرن در بحث از ربط و نسبت اخلاق با دین (خدا) می‌کوشد موضع میانه‌ای اتخاذ کند. او پس از توضیحاتی دربارهٔ دیدگاهش در خصوص سرشت احکام اخلاقی، معتقد است واقعیات اخلاقی به دو قسم ضروری و ممکن تقسیم می‌شوند. خدا در واقعیات ضروری اخلاق نقشی ندارد، اما در واقعیات ممکن اخلاق نقش‌آفرین است. همچنین به نظر می‌رسد او دو نقش دیگر نیز برای خدا در اخلاق قائل است: تغییر وضعیت برخی از احکام اخلاقی، و نقش‌آفرینی در فهم واقعیات ضروری اخلاق. در این مقاله نشان می‌دهم سوئینبرن در باز کردن پای خدا در اخلاق ناکام است و هر سه نقشی که برای خدا در اخلاق ذکر می‌کند نادرست است. اگر مقدمات او درست باشد، نتیجه این خواهد بود که خدا در زندگی خداباوران نقش‌آفرین است، اما نشان نمی‌دهد خدا در اخلاق نقشی جدی و خاص ایفا می‌کند. در پایان، نشان می‌دهم دیدگاه سوئینبرن در باب نقش خدا در اخلاق، حتی اگر درست باشد، نه در زندگی خداباوران تأثیری دارد و نه در زندگی خداناباوران.

Does God Have a Role in Morality? A Critique of Richard Swinburne

In his discussion of the relation between morality and religion (God), Richard Swinburne attempts to adopt a middle position. After outlining his account of the nature of moral judgments, he argues that moral facts are divided into two kinds: necessary and contingent. God plays no role in necessary moral facts, but does play a role in contingent moral facts. Moreover, Swinburne appears to attribute two further roles to God in morality: altering the status of certain moral judgments, and contributing to our understanding of necessary moral facts. In this paper, I argue that Swinburne fails to successfully introduce God into morality, and that all three roles he assigns to God are mistaken. If Swinburne’s premises are correct, the conclusion would be that God plays a role in the lives of theists; however, this does not show that God plays a serious and distinctive role in morality. Finally, I argue that Swinburne’s account of God’s role in morality, even if correct, has no practical impact either on the lives of theists or on those of non-theists.
